Making It

If you haven't already made it out to "Making it" the UArts alumni show, you should try to stop by and see it. 40 works from recent UArts grads were selected for this show. My Venus painting was picked and is even printed on the flyer! My studio mate Ashley also has a painting up in the show and the work looks great! Check it out if you get the chance.

I'm very close to finishing the Venus painting! but instead of finishing now, I've decided to start a new painting so that I have something to work on right away. I'm trying to avoid that moment when I take down a finished painting and there is nothing to look at besides the colorful tape stuck to my wall, and I'm left to think what's next...

I'm going to start a painting of the chemical elements of Mercury! its going to be a it smaller then the last two, only 30"X30"

Also I've been thinking a lot lately about going back to oil painting. I really miss the vibrant colors of oils. but my work is very difficult to do with paints that dry slowly.

I woke up this morning at 5:30am with fantastic new ideas!! I can't wait to get in the studio. I think I'll take a short break from the Venus painting and play around with these new ideas!

The Chemical Elements of Our Moon

After 9 long months I've finally finished this painting of our Moon's chemical elements. I feel like I just won a battle!
Each color represents one element that makes up the chemical structure of our Moon. The back ground is made up of straight vertical lines that represent the neutrons of these elements atoms, the number of rays ascending up from each point are the protons, and the rays descending from each point represent the electrons. The positioning of the points is based on the combination of each elements geometric crystal structure.
