new hand made necklaces

This week I took a break form making earring and made some new necklaces instead! I haven't put them up on Etsy yet but I probably will in a few days when I get back from my trip to Canada. I wasn't planing on making jewelry this week but then I went into Bead Works!
If you love making jewelry or just working with beads I recommend going to Bead Works on 2nd and South St. Philadelphia PA. I stopped in there yesterday just to look around and I walked out with a handful of cute bone feathers for about 10 bucks! They sell individual beads so you can mix and mach and get exactly what you want. They also sell chain, hooks and everything else you would need to make jewelry.
Here are some photos I took of the necklaces I just made!

I finely got my Etsy shop up and running so i can post and sell jewelry and other stuff I've been making. I'm still trying to make it look nicer but sometimes I'm not so computer savey. But for now I put 5 items up and more are on the way. To check out my Etsy shop just click the "Etsy shop online" link to the right.

Fun with feathers

Since I had so much fun last week making earrings and such... I made a few more accessories the other day. This was not originally what I had planed on doing, but after a long day I was in no mind set to paint. Sometimes your brain just needs a break and making crafty things is just the remedy. I also just made myself an Etsy account so I can sell some of these, but I'm still working out the details. I'll let you all know when thats up and running.

Coming Soon...

I've been keeping busy lately, working on new drawings and planing some new paintings. I'm trying to get a head start on my senior thesis so when I finely move back into my studio I can get right to work. I would like to at lest be somewhat prepared for this year. I hate to say it but a year moves pretty fast when you have a deadline and I don't want to waste a moment. I'll be posting pictures of a few drawings soon.

Internship with Kyle Schmidt

I recently finished my internship with Kyle Schmidt A printmaker from Space 1026 in Philadelphia PA. Over the span of five months we worked on many screen prints and about 450 double sided non-silver prints. These prints were made into CD jackets for the band Voodoo Economics. I assisted kyle in all the non-silver printing and assembling of these CD jackets.

current work

The past few months have been pretty busy for me. I've been working with this new idea of drawing as a form of painting. I started to realize that my drawings speak louder then my paintings. I also like the look of my drawings more then the paintings, so I started doing a lot of drawings as studies before I paint. Bringing the drawing element back into my paintings has given me more freedom and has shown me a new way of thinking. Subject wise I've been dealing with ideas of self identity and culture. As an artist I am still developing myself and my work. My recent work has told me a lot about myself and I'm pretty excited to see where it takes me.
For now here are some pictures of my current work.

Jr. Painting Exhibition 2008

For a while I was thinking, why don't Jr. Painting majors at UArts ever get to show there work? Every other major in our school has Sophomore, Jr., and Senior shows organized and advertised by the school except the painting department. Why is it that we pay the same amount of money as everyone else but our department gets neglected? Founding for shows and visiting artists are low and/or non-existent. When I asked the department about why we don't get equal amount of showing opportunity as other majors I was told "It's not my job to get you shows." and "If you want to have a show organize it yourself." So thats just what I did. I feel as painters it is important to show our work because our careers depend on it. After speaking with the students I agreed to organize a Jr. Painting Show for UArts painting majors. Most off my studio mates were really excited to show there work and I was really excited to organize it.

I'll post some pictures soon.
